What does it mean
to work with a REALTOR in Ontario?
As a consumer, you have options when it comes to Toronto Real Estate and how you want to play in this market. On December 1, 2023, the Government of Ontario implemented the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002, or TRESA for short, and there’s some new things you as a consumer need to know when considering working with a Realtor.
First things first, you should read the RECO Information Guide.
When you first start talking to a REALTOR, you can expect to receive the RECO Information Guide, which goes over your options as a consumer.
By law, we as Real Estate Professionals must provide this guide to you at the earliest opportunity and review it with you. You can expect to be asked to acknowledge that you have reviewed the guide with your agent, again at the earliest opportunity.
This guide will help you decide if you want to work exclusively with your agent for your full home search, just for a specific property or if you’d like to represent yourself, and what to do if something goes wrong.
Let’s get started.
